My Garden Party

I turned 21 on August 1st and I haven’t had an actual birthday party since I was 15 years old. I knew turning 21 was kind of a big deal so I wanted to do something memorable. My parents have a beautiful backyard that is absolutely perfect for entertaining. As a fashion major, I subconsciously have a love for any type of design and decor so planning this small (but important) event was too fun for me. When brainstorming my birthday options, I knew I wanted to have an intimate evening garden party with my close girlfriends. I had several ideas and was pretty adamant about incorporating certain things (i.e. the curtains, lights, candlesticks, botanical chandelier, etc.). With the help of my mom, Amy, and my 2nd mom, Debbie, my ultimate garden party vision was turned into an even better reality. They both went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The end result was WAY better than I had initially imagined and I would not have wanted one thing different.

The party began around 8pm. We mingled, we laughed, we drank and we ate small hor d’oeuvres while the Bon Iver (my favorite) soundtrack softly played in the background. Around 8:30, we had dinner which consisted of: rotisserie chicken, steamed carrots, rice pilaf, and a warm roll. We later had cake, prepared by my lovely mother, and continued conversation until around midnight. I had the best time and loved every minute of this night.  *Side note: if I had this much fun planning a birthday party, I wonder what planning a wedding will be like………..

I would like to give a huge thank you to both my Mom and Debbie for their creativity, their event prep skills, and their patience. There would not have been a party if it wasn’t for you two. Also, thank you to my Dad, JP, and Jesse Pratt for building the table and benches and also hanging the curtains. And, a big thank you to my friends and family who celebrated this night with me. Each and every one of you made my birthday so special.
